Gondar: Often referred to as the “Camelot of Africa,” Gondar served as the capital of Ethiopia from 1632 to 1855. This historic city is famed for its impressive collection of castles and palaces within a walled imperial enclosure, offering a unique glimpse into Ethiopia’s regal past.

Detailed Day-by-Day Itinerary

Morning: Take a short flight from Addis Ababa to the historic city of Gondar. Upon arrival at Gondar Airport, you will be greeted by your professional guide and driver.

Midday: Transfer to your pre-booked hotel or lodge for check-in. Take some time to rest and enjoy a delicious lunch.

Afternoon: Meet your guide to begin your exploration. You will visit the magnificent castles within the imperial enclosure (Fasil Ghebbi) and the famous Fasilides’ Bath, a ceremonial pool used during the Timket festival.

Evening: Return to your hotel for a brief rest. Later, head out for dinner at one of Gondar’s highly recommended local restaurants, where you can savor traditional Ethiopian cuisine.

Overnight: Hotel in Gondar

Morning: Your guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel. Drive for two hours to Debark, the entrance to Simien Mountain National Park. After completing formalities and obtaining permits, meet your national park scouts who will assist you.

Afternoon: Drive 13 miles into the park to the starting point of your hike. Begin a three-hour trek up to Michibi, where you will encounter the endemic Gelada baboons and a variety of plants and birds. Enjoy the spectacular views of the Simien Mountains from above.

Evening: After a wonderful day of trekking, you will be driven back to Gondar and dropped off at your hotel for a well-deserved rest.

Overnight: Hotel in Gondar

Morning: After breakfast, prepare for one last sightseeing adventure. Visit the Debre Birhan Selassie Church, located on a hill’s edge in Gondar. Built by Emperor Iyasu II in the 17th century and named “Mountain of Light,” this church is renowned for the beautiful angel-faced frescos that adorn its interior ceiling.

Midday: Return to your hotel to check out and have lunch.

Afternoon: Drive back to Gondar Airport for your flight to Addis Ababa.

Evening: Arrive in Addis Ababa, marking the end of your memorable trip.
